Last week saw the release of the debut novel Charlotte Street by London columnist and writer Danny Wallace, author of the hugely successful Join Me and Yes Man books. Featuring the handy work of Joel Holland across its cover, the story follows a protagonist searching for a girl in the city, using only the photos from her discarded disposable camera.

Throughout yesterday in the city of Toronto a truly huge mural was spreading across the side of this building, as part of a large scale project with Molson M beer and artist Kustaa Saksi.

As followers of Molsons twitter page added #MolsonM_Art to their tweets, larger parts of the art designed by Kustaa Saksi were painted by hand onto the wall, and their names were added to a huge list of participants en scribed at the bottom. Each tweet also donates $1 to the Canadian Art Foundation, with hopes to raise up to $20,000 over the next four weeks.

Noma Bar has lent his hand to help Champagne producers G.H.Mumm spread the word of the proper protocols to drinking their premium produce with a handy iPhone App, released this week.

Divided into 12 chapters, each illustrated by Noma, the App provides reference to everything you could possible need to know, from how to open a bottle with a sabre to how to store your Champagne for the perfect temperature.

Joel Holland has recently provided his typographic skills to pasta chain AWKitchen for their restuarant in the Azabujuban district of Tokyo, Japan.

 

His work adorns the blackboards around the bar and interior, adding to the warm friendly atmosphere that's already present in this amazing looking space. An iron sculpture was also created, forged in Joel's signature style, and is bolted to the wall at the far end of the restuarant.

Through the post this morning we received a copy of Die Bruder Boateng from German publisher Klett-Cotta's Tropen imprint, with great cover art by Dragon76. Although not in English, a quick Google translation of the blurb reveals it to be far more intricate than just football.

As knowledgable people may know, the title refers to professional Ghanan footballers and brothers Kevin, George, and half brother Jerome Boateng, born in Germany. While the oldest George had a brief entry into the sport, Kevin found international fame with Tottenham Hotspur's and A.C Milan, while Jerome played for Manchester City and Bayern Munich, before playing against each other in the Germany vs. Ghana FA World Cup in 2010 (the first time two brothers had played on opposite teams in the tournament).

The book explores each of the brothers careers and insights into their lives, as well as their relationships with each other, comparing the opposing upbringing between the poorer town of Wedding, Ghana and Wilmersdorf, Germany. Unfortunately there isn't a translated version just yet, so unless you're bilingual you may have to make do with Dragons great work instead.

This previous weekend marked an annual tradition in Minneapolis as Aesthetic Apparatus held another infamous Scratch & Dent Sale, opening a whole showroom of lightly scuffed prints of their various music posters for a sweet $5 each, followed by food, drink and music from local muso's The Evening Rig.

We're pleased to hear it was another hugely successful event, gathering funds to feed their insatiable screen printing habit for another year. Wish we could have been there to see it!

We are very pleased to announce that artist Noma Bar last night received a Yellow Pencil at the D&AD Professional Awards 2012 for his Don DeLillo series of covers, art directed by It's Nice That and published by Pan Macmillan last year.

The series was nominated in the Book Design category, and came out top amongst a great list of other titles and nominations. Congratulations to Noma, the team at It's Nice That and Pan Macmillan!

Joel Holland was invited by brand and marketing agency 20.20 to help populate their new website with his stylise typography and characters, some of which you can see above.

20.20 have been active in the industry for over twenty years, helping design the first Virgin Megastore and working with big names such as Sainsbury's supermarkets, BHS department stores, Orange mobile and Arsenal F.C since.
